BREAKING: Tobi Amusan becomes the first ever Nigerian athlete in history to win a world title, breaks world record

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 08:15 PM PDT

Nigeria's Tobi Amusan early this morning became the first ever Nigerian athlete in history to win a world title at the World Athletics Championships as she won a gold medal at the women's 100m hurdles final.

The record time of 12.12 seconds broke Kendra Harrison's mark of 12.20 in her semi-final race.

About 90 minutes after Amusan set a new world record, she ran 12.06 in the final to beat Jamaica's Britany Anderson by 0.17. That time is not a record because she had a 2.5 meter-per-second wind behind her, which is .5 over the legal limit. The wind on the record setter was 0.9.

The 25-year-old, who finished fourth at last year's Olympics and fourth at worlds in 2019, broke the six-year-old record of 12.20 seconds held by Keni Harrison.

With that, Tobi Amusan became the first ever Nigerian athlete in history to win a world title and set a world record.

Her team mate Ese Brume also made Nigeria proud with a Silver medal in the long jump after leaping to 7:02 m early this morning.

Atiku blasts Tinubu - "You are starting to suffer from memory loss"

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 08:03 PM PDT

There appears to be no end in sight to the public spat between the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and his opponent in the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

In response to a statement credited to the Tinubu Campaign Organisation; in which it accused Atiku of lying about his past record of opposition to the Muslim-Muslim ticket, the Atiku Media Office, on Sunday, said it sympathizes with Tinubu, because "his memory is no longer what it used to be."

This was contained in a statement signed by Atiku's Media Adviser, Mazi Paul Ibe.

Atiku noted that the response from the Tinubu camp to his interview on Arise TV, which he described as "replete with indiscreet language," deserves a response.

Ibe said, "The former Vice President has elected to respond to the claims made by Asiwaju."

He said, "On the issue of Atiku Abubakar offering to make Bola Tinubu his running mate in 2007, the Waziri says as a statesman, which he believes Asiwaju Bola Tinubu also is, or should be, it is pertinent that they use temperate language at all times.

" It not only shows that they are seasoned and mature, more importantly, it is a good indicator of fitness for office.

"And that is why it is our intention to respond to Asiwaju's statement on Atiku Abubakar's Arise TV interview, not in the rather impolite manner that he dealt the PDP presidential candidate, but in measured tones.

"The major accusation made by Asiwaju Tinubu is that the Waziri Adamawa offered him the opportunity of being his running mate in 2007, which means that the former Vice President was not then mindful of Nigeria's religious and ethnic diversity, making his statements during the Arise TV interview hypocritical.

"We would not say that Bola Tinubu has lied. Rather, it is our desire to give him the benefit of the doubt, and believe that his memory may not be what it used to be.

"Nigerians may want to note that on 14 September, 2005, the then US Consul General, Brian L. Browne, drafted a memo, leaked via Wikileaks, wherein he stated that Bola Tinubu was scheming to be a running mate to either Atiku Abubakar or Muhammadu Buhari.

"This is further historically corroborated by the subsequent political history of Nigeria. Biographers of President Muhammadu Buhari have variously recounted how that Bola Tinubu made the same request of then Presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

"In his 2016 AUTHORISED biography of President Muhammadu Buhari titled 'Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria', Professor John Paden, an American, wrote about the issue as follows:

"Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and political 'godfather' of the South-West geopolitical zone, felt he should be the vice-presidential candidate."

The above, Ibe said, clearly shows a behavioural pattern here. "So, if anyone is "unhinged from the truth" (to borrow Asiwaju Tinubu's words), it certainly is not Atiku Abubakar.

"In any case, if Bola Tinubu can forget the name of his own political party, why will he not also forget what transpired in 2007 and 2015? We do sympathise with him.

"The fact remains that in a fragile and ethnically diverse nation, such as ours, religious and ethnic balance must be observed at the highest levels, and from there flow downwards.

"That is what Atiku Abubakar said during his interview with Arise TV on Thursday, July 21, 2022, and he stands on that principle and will continue to so stand without apology to anyone.

"From the forgoing, it is clear that His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar's memory and recollection of the event has been corroborated by multiple, independent, and unconnected third parties, and if this were a court of law, this issue would have been regarded as proved beyond reasonable doubt.

"We would also like to remind Nigerians that even though multiple sources have testified that Bola Tinubu desperately lobbied to be made Buhari's deputy in a Muslim-Muslim ticket, Bola Tinubu himself denied this on June 22, 2022, and instead accused President Buhari of offering him the position of Vice President.

"Which is exactly the same false allegation he has made against Atiku Abubakar. This is a pattern of behaviour. Not owning up to his actions.

"Therefore, we hope this settles the matter, and that cordiality can be expected henceforth from the opposing camp."

The Atiku team expressed hope that the Tinubu Campaign will henceforth use temperate language in its response to issues.

Registered voters hit seven million in Lagos – INEC

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 07:52 PM PDT

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Lagos State says the state currently has about seven million registered voters.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.

According to him, if the number of new registrants so far in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration is added to those in the register of voters before in the state, the number will be about seven million.

"In Lagos State as of Monday (July 18), those who registered online are 640, 560 but many of them have not completed registration. Those who have completed the registration are 451, 156.

"The total number of registered voters in Lagos State before the commencement of the ongoing CVR is 6,570,291, and if we add the new registrants, we have about seven million registered voters," Agbaje said.

He, however, said the ongoing CVR had not ended and the commission was still capturing more people before deadline on July 31.

The INEC boss said there would not be any extension of the CVR because the commission had lots of work to do on the voters register before printing of the Permanent Voter Cards.

He assured all stakeholders that though the commission could not capture everybody, those who presented themselves for registration would not be denied.

"Every day, there is no one that will come here that will go out without being attended to unless we cannot finish before 7pm because, by that time, all over the country, the system will shut down to avoid misuse of the machine at night.

He said the commission added six extra days to the registration which were Saturdays and Sundays of the last three weeks of the exercise from 9am to 5pm before the deadline.

"Whoever comes out on these weekends, especially those who complained that their work do not allow them, will be registered," he added.

He said the commission had to stop the CVR on July 31,  so as to clean up the voter register which he described as vital in the credibility of elections.

"We have to take the data to our workshop, analyse what we have, then to another workshop for printing of cards, transporting them to all the states before we ask people to come and collect.

"So, the processes are quite long and the time is not there, we have to stop the CVR," he added.

Urging people to avoid double registration, Agbaje said those engaged in double or multiple registration would not get PVCs.

According to him, those who engage in multiple registration affect chances of others, saying many who need to seek replacement of lost or defaced PVCs or transfer of their registration to a nearest polling units are registering newly.

Tinubu’s Muslim Muslim ticket, political strategy – Fayemi tells CAN, Christians

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 12:40 PM PDT

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has said the All Progressives Congress, APC, settled for a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket based on political strategy.

Fayemi said the APC's Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket was not aimed at undermining Christians but was based on political strategy.

He spoke while hosting the new executives of the Ekiti State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, led by its Chairman, Emmanuel Aribasoye.

APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu picked Kashim Shettima, a Northern Muslim, as his running mate, against the agitations by Nigerians.

CAN had faulted the decision, stressing that APC was undermining Christians in the country.

However, Fayemi urged Christians to be more involved in politics.

"I have been talking to both the presidential candidate and other leaders of the party, that we need to take quick steps that we should have taken earlier, by approaching the leadership in Christendom and explain the context of the selection that was about to happen.

"Even if they don't agree with our choice, they would have seen the sincerity of purpose and understood that the decision was not on the ground of competence because we have competent Christians all over Nigeria but on grounds of strategic political moves, which is what we do in politics.

"We have to look at scenarios and calculate where the votes would come from, it is a game of numbers.

"I think it is time for Christians to move away from the theology of disengagement — the notion that politics is dirty and that it is not for a child of God."

Ban on corn sellers in Calabar: Cross River people berate Ayade’s govt

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 10:03 AM PDT

Criticisms have trailed the ban on roadside roasted corn selling and hawking by the Cross River State government.

Governor Ayade's government two days ago, ordered roasted corn sellers to vacate major routes in the Calabar metropolis or face arrest.

The directive was contained in a letter signed by the Chairman, Pollution Control Agency in the state, Barrister Tony Adinye

The directive ordered the corn sellers and hawkers to relocate to interior parts of town before August 1, 2022.

He said the directive is "in a bid to urgently sanitize the metropolis of every form of environmental pollution and bring decency to the aesthetics of the state".

All over social media, residents of the state have attacked the government over the order, tasking it to, first of all, evacuate the heaps of refuse that have inundated the city and blocked many major streets for more than two months.

Peter Akpan said, "This government is insensitive and clueless. Is it possible he corn sellers that are responsible for the wastes all over the once beautiful city?"

Bisong Raymond said, "they have nothing important to do than to deprive poor, hapless people who are eking out a living from nothing".

Mrs Frances Eno reacted, asking whether it is the maize sellers who are the major causes of environmental pollution in the metropolis. She described the government as clueless!

They called on the government to rescind the order and allow the corn sellers hustle from the seasonal business.

A corn hawker in Calabar, Madam Nkoyo Ekpenyong, a mother of four, appealed to the state government to soften the directive, adding that with such order government agents would immediately begin to harass and seize their wares.

Insecurity: Nigeria will break in two years – Gani Adams

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 10:01 AM PDT

Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, has warned that Nigeria might cease to exist in the next two years going by the plethora of crisis in the country.

He maintained that government's urgent implementation of true federalism was the only way to save the nation from going off the rails.

The country's governance has exhibited a lack of coordination, according to the Generalissimo of the Yoruba race, despite the insecurity situation, the economic downturn, and deteriorated institutions, among other things.

The Odua People's Congress, OPC, leader Adams said this at this year's Okota celebration in his hometown of Arigidi-Akoko, in Ondo State's Akoko North-West Local Government Area.

He emphasized that the country's ongoing problems would only get worse as a result of the drive to adapt Nigeria to a unitary system of government.

"With the insecurity issues in Nigeria, there is nothing that can be done if we do not have federalism. If we do not allow federalism on the basis of regionalism, I'm afraid within two years, this country will break.

"You can see how the wave is coming. Not only wave of insecurity, even the economy, depreciating of institution, lack of coercion in governance. Definitely, there is danger ahead if the Nigerian government did not act fast to restructure Nigeria to regionalism."

Terrorists planning to kidnap Buhari, El-Rufai are bringing relief to Nigerians – Omokri

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 08:41 AM PDT

Socio-political activist, Reno Omokri has declared that the terrorists threatening to abduct President Muhammdu Buhari and the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai are only bringing relief to Nigerians.

Recall that a terrorist group in the North West who abducted the Abuja-Kaduna train passengers had threatened to kidnap Buhari and El-Rufai.

The terrorists made the threat in a fresh video where they were captured flogging some of their captives, particularly the male victims.

Reacting, Omokri in a post on his official Facebook page on Sunday, stated that Nigerians will not consider the terrorists' plan as threat but relief.

According to him, kidnapping the President would mean abducting all Nigerians' problems.

He wrote, "Why are these bandits threatening to abduct Buhari and El-Rufai? I am not sure Nigerians consider that a threat.

"To many Nigerians, that would be a relief. Buhari that met Dollar at ₦190 and today it is ₦650? Abducting him is like abducting Nigeria's problem!

"Bandits threatening to abduct Buhari and El-Rufai is just like Pablo Escobar's drug cartel threatening to abduct Bola Tinubu. What concerns the rest of us? What heroin and terrorism has joined together, who are Nigerians to put it asunder? I beg, leave us jare!"

El Clasico: Your victory over Real Madrid doesn’t count – Courtois tells Barcelona

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 08:34 AM PDT

Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois has told Barcelona that their El Clasico pre-season 1-0 friendly win over Carlo Ancelotti's side doesn't count.

Courtois believes the outcome of the match would not affect the Los Blancos players.

The Belgium international featured as Barcelona defeated Real Madrid in Las Vegas, USA, on Sunday following a stunning strike from Raphinha.

"Obviously, you can't draw too many conclusions," Courtois said at his post-match press conference.

"Some have been training for two weeks and others have only been training for one week.

"The most important thing is to get into a rhythm, to start with a good intensity, which in other years we didn't have.

"For a first game, it was good. The only thing is that we didn't have a goal and they scored a great goal.

"We hit the crossbar and they had one that went into the top corner.

"In pre-season, the result doesn't count.

"I remember when we lost 7-3 against Atletico Madrid and then we beat them twice and won the league that season.

"The results now don't say much. Obviously, we'd prefer to win, especially in front of the fans in the United States, but it's the first game and we had to get into a rhythm.

"We don't like the defeat, but we shouldn't take it too dramatically."

Tinubu: Bishops at Shettima’s unveiling won’t escape God’s wrath – Enenche spits fire

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 08:24 AM PDT

The Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Paul Enenche, on Sunday, warned the bishops present at the unveiling of Kashim Shettima as the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential running mate.

Enenche warned that the bishops would not escape the wrath of God because they mocked Christianity.

About 30 "bishops" were present during Shettima's unveiling as the running mate to APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

But, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, had distanced itself from the bishops, stressing that they were fake and not its members.

However, Enenche accused the bishops of impersonating Christians, hence should be punished.

Addressing his members at the church's headquarters in Abuja, Enenche said: "Those yeye bishops, those who sent and arranged them, are more useless and worthless; they just paraded some useless vagabonds.

"Just imagine a thing like that happened with the other religion, imagine a Christian wearing the cloth of an Imam? They would call it blasphemy, and lives will be lost.

"They killed a young girl innocently in Sokoto the other time, but we are taking it no more in this country.

"Those demonic bishops won't go free for mocking Christianity like that. They will never go free for mocking the people of God.

"If the law of the land does not catch up with them, the law of God will catch up with them. That is an impersonation of the highest order.

"Enough is enough; we are taking our country back from the hands of demons and their agents."

Zamfara: They begged me to receive title – Bandits’ kingpin, Ado Aleiro

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 08:21 AM PDT

The notorious bandit, Ado Aleiro, who was crowned as Sarkin Fulani, in Yantodo Emirate of Zamfara State, on Sunday, said he did not beg for the title bestowed on him by the Zamfara State Emirate Council.

He spoke with Deutche Welle (D.W) Radio monitored by our  Correspondent.

The Katsina Police Command had said Aleiro, bandits' kingpin had been on the wanted list for kidnapping and killing of innocent souls.

The Emir and the elders of the community decided to honour him with the title, so he could put a stop to future attack by his men.

However, few hours after they bestowed on him the title of Sarkin Fulani, in the presence of the State Commissioner for Internal security and home Affairs, and other Government functionaries, there were public condemnations, leading to the suspension of the Emir.

While speaking with a foreign radio in an interview on Sunday, the bandits' kingpin, Alero, said he did not beg for the title, but that the community deemed it fit.

According to him, "Honestly I didn't solicit for the title, I was summoned by the Emirate, which initially, I rejected it."

"After consultations with our leaders over the development, they suggested that I shouldn't turn down the offer since the new emir insisted it had to happen in his emirate; that was how I accepted it," he said.

He also denied being the mastermind of killing of over 100 people in Kadisau village in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, adding that he did not know the person responsible for the attack.

IPOB reacts as UN asks Buhari govt to release Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 08:18 AM PDT

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has commended the United Nations, UN, for asking the Nigerian Government to release its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

IPOB expressed hope that the Nigerian Government would comply with the call and release Kanu.

The UN Human Rights Council's Working Group on Arbitrary Detention had called on the Nigerian Government to release Kanu unconditionally.

The body also charged the Nigerian Government to compensate Kanu over the illegal extra-ordinary rendition of Kanu from Kenya.

However, the spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful, said: "We, the global and noble family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the supreme leadership of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to express our profound gratitude to the UN Human Rights Council's Working Group on Arbitrary Detention for their courage in reaching the decision contained in Opinion No 25th July, 2022 concerning the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide which opinion comports with the tenets of international laws.

"The opinion of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention specifically indicted the Nigerian and Kenyan governments for the kidnap and extraordinary rendition of our Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu while directing the Government of Nigeria to remedy the situation by releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally and to compensate him for the abuse and persecution he has been and continue to be put through.

"Our commendation also goes to our legal advisers and all those who quietly labored and assisted in achieving this landmark victory. It is indeed a great milestone for our Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB and Biafrans worldwide.

"It is our hope that Nigeria, as a member of the United Nations, will take heed and promptly obey and implement the UN directives already transmitted to it to the letter. We caution that this is not a Nigerian court decision or order that is often flagrantly disobeyed without consequences."

Port Harcourt Refinery To Begin Operation First Quarter Of 2023

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 06:36 AM PDT

The Managing Director of the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited, Ahmed Dikko, has given an assurance that the rehabilitation of the Old Port Harcourt Refinery with a refining capacity of 60,000 barrels per day would be completed and put to use by the first quarter of 2023.

Dikko gave the assurance at the weekend when the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on the state of the country's refineries visited the facility in Rivers State for an on-the-spot assessment of the $1.5 billion rehabilitation project of the facility.

He said the Old Port Harcourt refinery, referred to as 'Area 5', would be the first of three phases of the project.

He said by the time the entire project is completed by the end of 2024, the facility would have a refining capacity of 210,000 bpd.

He expressed confidence that they would stick to the timelines and within the cost approved for the project.

He said, "We plan to finish Area 5 by the first quarter of next year, so we can begin to run it. It is the old refinery. It is a 60,000 barrels per day capacity plant and it is a priority for us at this point.

"The other parts of the refinery would come a few months after that. We are on track and managing the process very well and would continue to do the best we can at all times to ensure that we meet these expectations we put on ourselves so we all would be proud of all these activities and begin to have some refining capacity in Port Harcourt."

He expressed gratitude to the House of Representatives for their support.

Chairman of the House Ad-Hoc Committee, Hon Ganiyu Johnson, who was led round the facility along with his members by the MD expressed satisfaction with the level of work.

He said, "So far on behalf of my committee members, we are satisfied with the level of work, because we did not expect this level of performance when we left Abuja. But after going round, we are satisfied with the level of performance.

"Nigerians should bear with the company. We know that the solution to all oil subsidy is the refineries. The oil subsidy would be a thing of the past. We should be able to reduce it to the barest minimum.

"We owe Nigerians the duty to ensure this place is working because if these refineries are not working, we would continue to suffer and God forbid, we hope it would not get to a stage an average man cannot buy fuel and that is why we really want to encourage you and support you and make sure you complete this refinery. Even if it is just Port Harcourt for now, it means we would be able to deliver 210,000 bpd."

He urged the MD to fast track the completion of the refinery and make sure it is delivered on schedule.

How To Play Every Map in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 06:02 AM PDT

To ensure an upper hand in a battle, you must know your environment well. Very few players on CoD are aware of how much they could do if they knew their maps well enough. Cold War comes with tons of maps that are regularly updated. Armada, Crossroads, Garrison, and Miami are notable maps in the game.

However, the rules for playing on these maps are almost the same. So, continue reading to discover practical tips on how to play all CoD: Black ops Cold War matches. Also, do well to use some black ops cold war hacks to boost your performance.

Practical tips for playing better in all CoD: Black Ops Cold War matches

  1. Conquer one map before moving to the next

Gone are the days players had to pay $15 for new maps. Maps are now added to games and can be accessed for free. While this is supposed to be a big plus, it can be a setback since most players want to spontaneously play on any map they can lay their hands on.

The disadvantage is that they get killed by players with better knowledge of the maps. The best way to utilize maps in Cold War or any other CoD title is to stick with one map before moving on to the next.

  1. Pay attention to your surroundings at all times.

Cold War matches are no joke; you can lose your life in a split second if you're not careful. Someone sneaking up on you from behind is a common occurrence you must avoid at any cost. Simple precautions include always looking back at the route you emerged from and listening for footsteps.

Also, several perks allow you to see the map more efficiently. Some notable examples are field mics, proximity mines, and spy planes. You can also make yourself invisible to enemy spy planes by using the Ghost perk.

  1. Stick with the mission goal

A lot of times in Cold War will have you shooting the hell out of every opponent in sight. As interesting as this is, it's more important to stick with the objective of the match. That's because many other players will have the mission's objective as their target.

In Kill Confirmed, you can use dog tags to identify hot spots. The high population of these objective locations will make it easier for you to amass more kills. However, never neglect the objective for kills. Whatever you do, make sure you're in the company of your teammates.

  1. Always be on the move.

Players tend to cover a location from vantage points such as a window or behind a good cover. This could be a very beneficial tactic since you need to minimize movement to stay hidden. However, it could be wrong due to some reasons.

For instance, staying at one location while you have the Ghost perk activated renders the perk useless. Enemies with UAVs will still be able to spot you. Also, you could be an easy target for a sniper who saw you peek from your cover and is just waiting for you to resurface.

  1. Stick sight lines and peek spots to memory

Many spots in the maps serve as better shooting locations than others. This is mainly because of the great sight they provide players in addition to sufficient cover. Moreover, it will be advantageous if you know how to head-glitch.

Head-glitching is a tactic in the game where you peek from behind covers, and only your head is visible. You'll need a fair knowledge of peek spots to maximize this tactic. Mind you; sniper rifles will serve as the best weapons with this strategy.

Conclusion

All maps on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War require the same approach. It just requires a bit of attention and retentive memory on your part. Just take mental notes of the best sight lines and peek spots.

Also, camping could be cool if you have a sniper rifle. However, doing so while using the Ghost perk makes you noticeable by enemy UAVs. Lastly, always stick with the objective and pay attention to your rear.

Dandare also warned the officers to desist from collecting bride or any act that can jeopardize the reputation of the Command in the State.

"I am appealing to all the divisional offices to adhere strictly to the rule of engagement, as any officer found wanting in the discharge of his duty shall be dealt with severely," the commandant warned.

Ogun Oba cries out as erosion threatens Esure-Ijebu community

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 05:27 AM PDT

The Ebelu of Esure in Ijebu-Imusin, Ijebu-East Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Abdulsamad Kasali has cried out over the level of erosion devastating his community.

The traditional ruler lamented that flooding is threatening houses and farms, calling on the government to come to their rescue.

According to him, Esure community has a sloppy ground, making it very prone to erosion.

He said the erosion problem was compounded because the rain water coming from Imushin, Odunopa and its environ had been channelled towards Esure town.

Speaking at his one year coronation anniversary, Oba Kasali worried that their property and farm produce might be further swept away by erosion if government fails to rescue them.

The monarch, who lauded the Governor Dapo Abiodun government for the provision of road network, however, warned that the roads might be eroded if no urgent action was taken.

While expressing displeasure over the loss of property to incessant flooding, Oba Ebelu pleaded that drainages be constructed to collect water from the five neighbouring communities in the area.

He regretted that despite the efforts of the State government to provide roads and healthcare, the town is seriously facing the problem of erosion due to the water coming from the five neighbouring communities.

He said, "Esure is facing the challenges of erosion because it is having a sloppy ground, and majorly, all the water coming from Imushin, Odunopa and its environ was channelled towards Esure town. We want government to come to our rescue."

In his one year on the throne, Oba Kasali revealed that he had been able to build a new market in Ita Esure, provide solar power in the town, provide walkie-talkie and security materials to vigilantes, construct drainage channel at Olode street for flow of water, among other self executed projects.

Stating that the community had no security or health issues, he emphasised that government intervention was needed to stop errosion.

The event was attended by former Ogun Deputy Governor, Yetunde Onanuga and her husband, Chief Abiodun Onanuga, who is the Chairman of the occasion.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for "failing to prosecute those suspected of vote-buying and electoral bribery during the recently concluded Ekiti State governorship election."

According to reports, there was a brazen pattern of vote-buying and electoral bribery in some polling units during the recently concluded Ekiti governorship election.

A political party was said to have induced voters in Ekiti with as much as N10,000.

It was reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, scored 187, 057 votes to win the election.

However, in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1189/2022 filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, last Friday, SERAP is seeking "an order of mandamus to direct and compel INEC to seek and obtain detailed information about reports of vote-buying by the three leading political parties in the 2022 Ekiti State governorship election.

SERAP is seeking "an order of mandamus to direct and compel INEC to promptly and effectively prosecute those arrested, and to bring to justice anyone who sponsored, aided and abetted them."

According to the organization, "wealthy candidates and their sponsors ought not to be allowed to profit from their crimes. Arresting and prosecuting vote buyers will end widespread impunity for vote buying ahead of the February 2023 general elections."

The suit was filed on behalf of SERAP by its lawyers, Opeyemi Owolabi and Kolawole Oluwadare.

Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator has reacted to the video of terrorist group, ISAWP, assaulting the remaining passengers abducted from the Kaduna-Abuja train.

Sani, in a series of tweets via his Twitter handle, on Sunday, told the Federal Government that it should either free the remaining abducted passengers or negotiate for their release.

It was reported that some terrorists kidnapped over 60 passengers from the Abuja-Kaduna bound train on March 28.

Since the abduction, some of those abducted have been released, while others are still being held captive by the terrorists.

However, in a viral video at the weekend, the terrorists were seen flogging the remaining captives.

"The video clip of the torture of Kaduna bound train hostages followed the same pattern with that of Federal College of Agric Mechanisation, Kaduna. The difference was that women were spared. They are sending a message. The options remains two: free them or negotiate for their release.

"There has never been any successful rescue operations for most mass kidnappings of students, farmers or passengers in Kaduna, other than ransom payments by families. That is why the terrorists in the video called the committee set up by the Government as 'Tea drinking committee'.

"When terrorists post video clips of the torture of their victims, they are waging a psychological war to bring attention to their demands. We don't have a thick forest in the North West to warrant four months of this ordeal. Time is of essence for the Government to act now," he wrote.

Choose competent leaders, not place of origin – Ogun Monarch tells Nigerians

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 03:02 AM PDT

The Akarigbo and paramount ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi has told Nigerian voters to look for competence instead and not where a candidate comes from.

Akarigbo warned against trading competence for nativism in the selection of candidates for any appointment, saying qualification for elective posts or appointments should not be decided by place of origin, but competence and integrity.

The Chairman of the State's Traditional Council spoke during a send-off held in honour of the outgoing Rector of the Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Dr Isaiah Oyeyinka.

Oba Ajayi noted that though people can lobby that an indigene be appointed to head any establishment, such a candidate must be competent to do the job.

According to him, many had, since 2017, asked him to seek the removal of Oyeyinka "because he is not from Remoland."

"For me, I listen but I take my time to react. So, I decided to talk to him (Oyeyinka). He then told me to come and see the institution myself. The day I visited the school, I was surprised. I could see the orderliness, sanity and the arrangement," Oba Ajayi said.

Ajayi maintained that his visit to the Polytechnic convinced him that Oyeyinka, an Egba indigene had turned the Polytechnic around for good.

Linking that with the nation, Akarigbo stated that a lesson to be learnt in Nigeria is that it is not every time that a person who would turn around an organization must be an indigene of any particular place.

He urged Nigerians that instead of insisting that certain positions should be given to an indigene, "you must first of all look out for competent sons and daughters of the land; but if you can't find such, anyone from anywhere that's capable should be made to do the job."

The Oba's statement is coming few months to the 2023 general elections.

As of today, the leading candidates in the election are divided along regional and ethnic lines.

Osun: Any attempt to truncate our victory exercise in futility – PDP

Posted: 24 Jul 2022 02:17 AM PDT

The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned against any attempt aimed at truncating the overwhelming victory of the party at the gubernatorial poll.

This is at it declared that such treachery will be an exercise in futility.

The Osun PDP made this known in a warning statement signed by Akindele Adekunle, Chairman, Caretaker Transition Committee and aimed at Dotun Babayemi frowned at the legal action he has instituted against the governor-elect.

Dotun Babayemi emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of a faction of the Osun PDP at a parallel primary election held at the WOCDIF centre, Osogbo, while Ademola Adeleke emerged at the gubernatorial primary election held at the Osogbo City Stadium and was certified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The statement, which warned Babayemi that his actions may assume a dangerous and self destructive dimension, added that such scheming would end in further legal defeat as the aspirant had no strong legal basis for his many litigations.

The party also described his refusal to listen to calls by elders of his group, who urged him to discontinue the legal challenge on Osun PDP primary, as worrisome.

They said he had become the willing tool of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which is yet to recover from its crushing defeat.

The statement reads in part, "While the aspirant had filed several cases and failed to upturn due process decision of the party, the party noted that the last ruling of the Court of Appeal should put paid to further litigation on the primary. Any decision to pursue the issue further will smack of open anti-party activity and a direct disrespect for the people of Osun State who voted massively for Senator Ademola Adeleke.

"From the beginning of the litigation to date, it was obvious the aspirant was only holding unto straws as the primary that produced Senator Adeleke fulfilled all extant regulations and legal requirements in line with the electoral act among others.

"The party not only duly authorized the primary, the right delegates participated at the right venue with right statutory supervision, while a valid court order equally mandated the holding and organisation of the governorship primary.

"We are, therefore, constrained to call on Babayemi to toe the path of honour and to embrace the overwhelming choice of Osun people. Any hope of stealing the people's mandate for Senator Ademola Adeleke through the backdoor is a venture doomed from conception. Enough is enough."
